Finally, we waited a long time just to get our check. We finally had to go to the front to pay. This was definite not worth the $75 we ended up paying.
Better off going to watermans 10 minutes away in Edenton. Comparable prime rib, and seem to do a lot of the other things better.
First visit to Edenton. House 51 was actually recommended by co-worker. Absolute worst experience I have had in years. 2 1/2 hours for lunch? They weren’t even busy! I do not mind waiting for a great meal, but I expect service to make up for the wait! Then food was delivered to table cold! Bottom line, the phenomenal view does not make up for expensive lunch with horrible service and cold food!
Not good service. Forgot several things we asked for. I want to attribute it to inexperience rather than inattentive. One of the appetizers came out 1 minute before the entrées arrived. There were 4 of us, 2 ordered seafood and said it was bad. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, however I think it was overseasoned. Didn't bring a steak knife out with it though. Service speed was about average. The sides were not good, at least ones I had. The mashed potatoes were lumpy (so probably not instant) and very bland. The corn seemed like it was instant or frozen, didn't taste good at all.
If you like prime rib and don't care about the sides it's worth a visit. But the quality of the food doesn't match the high end dining they present themselves as, or the price that goes with it.
51 House is a great setting and atmosphere. We ate outside on the porch, overlooking the Albemarle Sound. My wife enjoyed her drink, the Protest. And these were the reasons that I gave it 2 stars and leaned toward 3 stars. But the waitress was unable to describe the Carolina clam chowder, which was not as described. It was very salty so I'm unsure of the flavor, but it did have lots of clams. The broiled fish and scallops were very very ordinary. The only flavor was a little paprika, which you really could not call that flavorful. The bacon and Brussels sprouts were mushy.
Long wait for our food(over an hour and a half), 7 out of 9 meals were wrong or not as described on the menu. Staff was polite but after multiple attempts to get our orders correct I gave up and asked for the manager... she was no help. We will not be coming back.
Tried the Cajun fried chicken skins appetizer. There was nothing Cajun about it. It was just over cooked chicken skins, with almost no seasoning. Better off going to KFC, getting a bucket and pulling the skins off that.
My Husband & I loved everything! We were celebrating our 13th Anniversary! The food was delicious and well prepared! Our server Dianne was Amazing! We will definitely return.
